November 3rd and 4th, 2025, Svenja Woudstra, Nadja Alsted and Line Svennesen (Research Group RUMINOH) attended the 7th Seminar on Nordic Mastitis Research 2025 in Tuusula. The topic was “Healthy udders through a herd health perspective”. Svenja and Line are part of the Nordic Mastitis Research Network, which organized the meeting, and both moderated discussions about “Herd-level information for monitoring udder health and its best-practice application in the Nordic countries”.

At the moment there are considerable differences between the countries in availability and cut-offs used for udder health Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Thoughts were shared about future collaboration between the Nordic countries on herd health monitoring and national management systems.

Also, ongoing mastitis research projects were presented, and Nadja presented some preliminary results of her PhD project about quarter selective dry cow therapy.

The 8th seminar on Nordic Mastitis Research will be held in Copenhagen in 2026 and organized by Svenja and Line as the Danish representatives of the organizing group.

The NKJ (Nordic Joint Committee for Agricultural and Food Research) mastitis network was established in Copenhagen at the European mastitis researchers meeting in 2017. The network meetings are funded by the NKJ networking funds. A long-term goal of the collaboration is to support and enhance competitiveness and profitability of Nordic dairy production through science-based knowledge and advice to the dairy sector.
